Marilia Baker, M.S.W. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (MFT-0356), received her American Masters degree in 1980 from the Boston College Graduate School of Social Work, Chestnut Hill, MA. Post-graduate training and clinical residency in Marriage and Family Therapy (1991-1993) at Phoenix Interfaith Counseling, Phoenix, AZ.

Special Skills: Multi-lingual, multi-cultural therapist. Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, English. Excellent knowledge of French and Italian. Certificate of Simultaneous Interpreter and Translator by the Institute of Modern Languages, Washington, D.C., 1970.

Fellowship Award: Organization of American States/Yale University/Centro Interamericano de Vivienda y Planificacion (CINVA). Certificate of Generalist, Advanced Housing and Planning for Latin America. A one-year, multi-disciplinary, international, intensive academics program. Bogota’, Colombia, 1966.

Author: A Tribute to Elizabeth Moore Erickson. Colleague Extraordinaire, Wife, Mother and Companion. Mexico City: Alom Publishers. Published in Spanish (2003), Portuguese (2004), English (2004), and French (2007). The book describes the many professional and personal facets of Milton H. Erickson’s wife, as well as the significant people and events, which surrounded their life and his role as founding father of modern Clinical Hypnosis and Brief Psychotherapy.

Phoenix Interfaith Counseling. Two-year postgraduate training and clinical residency in Marriage and Family Therapy. Phoenix, AZ: 1991-1993. Counselor/clinician from 1993 to 2002.

The Milton H. Erickson Foundation: Intensive Training in Ericksonian Clinical Hypnosis and Brief Psychotherapy (Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced). Phoenix, AZ: 1989-1990.

1990 to present: Subsequently, continued specialized training in Clinical Hypnosis and Brief Therapy, under the aegis of the Foundation. Have attended specialized training with, among others: Jeffrey Zeig, Ernest Rossi, Stephen Lankton, Stephen Gilligan, Michael Yapko, Betty Alice Erickson, Yvonne Dolan, Carol Lankton, and Carol Kershaw.

1990 to present: Have held several positions associated with the Foundation, including faculty member as Supervisor of Integrative Experience (1990 to 1994), Intensive Training Programs in Ericksonian Approaches to Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. Founding Director and Board Member, Milton H. Erickson Institutes of Sao Paulo, Brazil (1995 to 1999) and Florianopolis, Brazil (1999 to present).International Presenter and Trainer, U.S., Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Poland, Italy (1992 to present). Currently (2000 to present), serving as Guest Editor, The Milton H. Erickson Foundation Newsletter, a professional news journal of the Organization; responsible for Introducing the Institutes column.

International Editorial Board, Centro Ericksoniano de Mexico, for Revista Saludablemente Disfrutando, a magazine for professionals, parents, teachers, and the general public, utilizing Ericksonian approaches and worldview. The Milton H. Erickson Foundation: Invited Presenter (2003, 2006), Brief Therapy Conference, and Invited Faculty (2004, 2007) International Congress on Ericksonian Approaches.

2004 to present: Therapy and Training Affiliate. Phoenix Institute of Ericksonian Therapy. An Institute licensed by The Milton H. Erickson Foundation to disseminate Ericksonian, neo-Ericksonian and derivative schools of Ericksonian approaches to Hypnosis and Psychotherapy.

Clinical Specialties: Having lived and worked on three continents, Ms. Baker provides a diversity-oriented, culturally focused, solution-focused broad range of therapeutic approaches to individuals, couples and groups. Specialties include: Depression, Anxiety and Stress Disorders; Midlife and Older Adult Issues; Couples Therapy; Women in Transition, Relocated Families.
